March 21st Presentation Postponed
PRESS RELEASE
MARCH 15, 2011
ENFIELD, CT
Please be advised that the Thompsonville Transit Center presentation scheduled for the March 21st Enfield Town Council meeting has been postponed. A new date for the presentation has yet to be determined. The Town will notify the public when a new date is set. The reason for the postponement is related to changes to the proposed Transit Center design. More information is needed from the Federal Transit Administration and Connecticut Department of Transportation before the Town can proceed.
Background Information
The Town of Enfield is working on the development of the long awaited Thompsonville Transit Center. The Transit Center will be located at the intersection of Main and North River Streets in the Thompsonville section of Enfield and will provide both shuttle bus and commuter rail services when it is completed.
Prior to completion of construction plans for Phase I of the Transit Center, the Town hosted a series of meetings and a public forum to discuss potential concepts with residents. The forum was conducted as a "Design Charette", a workshop format which encourages attendees to participate in the decision making process.
From those meetings, the Town's design consultants have taken the information and formulated a final draft conceptual plan which would have been presented to the Enfield Town Council on March 21st, however due to recent changes at the federal and state level, the plans are on hold until more information can be obtained.
The FTA is funding 80% of the projects cost for Phase I.
For more information about the meetings or the project in general, please contact Peter Bryanton, Director of Community Development at 860-253-6391. Information is available online at http://www.enfield-ct.gov/content/91/12798/788/23103.aspx.
